Angelo State University: STEM Heroes
An original interactive IP I created for Angelo State University as part of a touchscreen experience on a traveling West Texas tech bus. The experience used a motion-comic format to introduce students to STEM careers through hero characters that personified different STEM skills and fields.
The Challenge
Building an interactive experience requires a thoughtful approach to motion, as it’s the primary driver of the user journey and key messaging. Working with lead designer @bipassana, we developed the motion and UI design in tandem, guided by a provided content outline. The development process became straight forward.
My Role
I served as Creative Director and Motion Designer, leading the concept, visual direction, story approach, motion system, and overall experience design. I worked with a junior developer and junior designer to bring the touchscreen activation to life.
UX Approach
The UX was designed around quick, intuitive interaction. Each STEM Hero acted as an entry point into a different skill or career path, allowing students to explore through character-driven storytelling instead of static educational content.
The interface focused on simple navigation, bold visuals, fast feedback, and bite-sized learning moments so the experience could work for both individual users and groups watching together.
AI-Assisted Design
I used Weavy, Nano Banana 2, and Veo 3 to help generate the character artwork, environments, poses, and animated moments. These AI tools allowed me to rapidly explore the look of the STEM Heroes IP, prototype motion-comic sequences, and build a polished visual system efficiently.
The Outcome
The final experience turned STEM education into a fun, portable touchscreen activation. By combining original IP, AI-generated artwork, motion-comic storytelling, and simple UX, STEM Heroes gave Angelo State a memorable way to engage students and promote STEM pathways across West Texas.
