Getaways Southwest Airlines

I led the creative direction and design for a Southwest Airlines Kinect-powered activation, creating a seamless, touchless gaming experience. From initial calibration to active gameplay, users controlled digital characters to collect falling vacation items. This project successfully blended physical movement with real-time digital interaction to drive brand engagement.

Characters

Three young adults with suitcases standing in a row, dressed in casual summer clothes, some wearing hats and sunglasses, against a plain gray background.

Creating the characters came from initial descriptions from Southwest Airlines of the new types of customers they hope to attract.

Environment & Art Direction

A man with sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt stands with a pink convertible car and rolling suitcases in front of tall city buildings and palm trees, with a graphic offering 5x points.
A digital illustration of an airport scene at night with a city skyline in the background. A person with a suitcase is walking, smiling. There is a tall tower, palm trees, a car, a heart-shaped balloon, a game screen with a score of 900, and a countdown timer showing 33 seconds.

Th art direction was inspired by their flat 2d concepts but the extra layer of depth and perspective was added by me to push the depth and modern feel of this interactive experience.

UX & Motion

Motion was essential to the UX strategy, ensuring instructions were communicated instantly and effectively. By removing points of confusion through visual cues, the experience allows users to focus on what matters: discovering why Southwest is their best option for travel.
